Money Saving Tips to Make Italy Affordable This Summer

Who hasn’t dreamed about visiting Italy? What nobody dreams of, however, are the high prices and bad exchange rate, which can turn the fantasy holiday you’ve been planning into one filled with headaches and counting pennies. Fortunately, there are ways of beating the dollar crunch and still enjoying a memorable, fulfilling trip to Italy this summer. Just small changes can add up, meaning you don’t have to sacrifice too much of the things that makes vacations to Italy so special.

Accommodations are usually the biggest drain on your travel budget, so choosing where to lay your head is very important. Generally, the closer you stay to the centre of the main tourist towns like Florence and Rome, the higher the price tag will be. Outside in the surrounding countryside, however, not only do rental rates drop, but options grow so you have more flexibility in terms of what you’re willing to pay.

Villas in popular provinces like Tuscany, Umbria and Campania are a great option for travelers looking to save money but who still want to enjoy the authentic atmosphere of Italy. Luxury Retreats, www.luxuryretreats.com, offers villa rentals in all sizes and price ranges, so there are properties to suit every budget. To get the best deal, it’s helpful to travel with a larger group and rent villas with four, five or more bedrooms. The more people who split the cost of the rental, the cheaper it will be.

Once in Italy, it is easy to cut costs. Going to restaurants every night adds up, but visitors can take advantage of the country’s gourmet tradition and stock up at local markets instead. Cooking for yourself in the villa’s kitchen isn’t just frugal, it can be fun.

No matter what kind of accommodation you choose, paying for a trip to Italy in advance with a US operator like Luxury Retreats and doing so in US dollars automatically saves money on the exchange rate.

For more information on our Italian villas, visit : www.luxuryretreats.com/villas/europe/Italy/

Zephyr Adventures Drops Prices for Family Tours

Montana-based adventure travel company Zephyr Adventures has dramatically reduced the prices for kids on its Family Adventures, with the price of its Yellowstone multisport family adventure down 38% from last year for kids.

Zephyr Adventures owner Allan Wright says the price drop is not in response to the country’s recent economic worries. “We have been planning this price decrease since the fall,” says Wright. “This is more a long-term plan to make guided family tours more affordable than it is a short-term response to the economy.”

In the world of travel, families have a number of options with a range of prices.  Road trips in the family minivan can be relatively inexpensive, especially if camping is on the agenda.  On the high end, organized guided tours with hotels, meals, activities, and guides can run thousands of dollars for a vacation – per family member.

“We just came to the realization that our family tour offerings were unaffordable for most families,” explains Wright. “And yet the concept of an organized family tour is so fantastic, it didn’t make sense to restrict this to just higher-income families.”

So Zephyr Adventures dropped its prices for kids and, in some cases, for adults.  The five-day Yellowstone Multisport Adventure, priced last year at $1600 per person, is now priced at only $1400 for adults and $1000 for kids staying in the same room.

Zephyr manages to do this by being local and remaining small.  The company is based near its Family Adventure destinations, right outside Yellowstone in Red Lodge, Montana. Zephyr also drastically reduced office expenses by going “virtual,” with all employees working from a home office.

All Zephyr’s family trips include such activities as river rafting, horseback riding, hiking, canoeing, and watching for wildlife.  “Our tours still come loaded with historic National Park lodging, expert guides, great meals, and fun activities,” says Wright.  “Only now, our Yellowstone tours are priced $600 to $1700 less per child than the tours of our competitors.”

Kids are always attended by professional guides and tend to bond with other youth participants within the first hour. Parents are free to participate with their kids or spend time with other adults, going for an extra hike or relaxing with a glass of wine.

Superclubs’ “Supersavings Sale” Offers Bountiful Savings To Jamaica

SUPERCLUBS’ “SUPERSAVINGS SALE” OFFERS BOUNTIFUL SAVINGS TO JAMAICA

Save 50% or More on Spring Travel, March 24 – May 31, if Booked by April 11

SuperClubs has a great array of SuperSavings at four of its Super-Inclusive resorts guaranteed to last from Easter through Memorial Day.  The month-long “SuperSavings Sale” launches today through April 11, and offers 50 percent, or more, savings at four select Jamaican resorts, with optimum value for week-long getaways booked between March 24 - May 31.  Each resort also offers an added bonus in the form of spa credits at SuperClubs’ Blue Mahoe Spas, specializing in holistic treatments with a Caribbean flair.

Grand Lido Resorts & Spas:  These intimate beachside retreats were freshly anointed with the AAA Four Diamond ratings this month, a status that Grand Lido Braco and Grand Lido Negril have retained annually since 1999 and 1997, respectively.  Starting rates for Beachfront rooms are $227 per person, per night, and stays of seven-night or longer receive $350 spa credits, plus a complimentary catamaran cruise for two (Grand Lido Negril) or Ocho Rios Shopping Tour (Grand Lido Braco), valued at $75 -$125.  This affordable luxury escape is an unbeatable treat with 55 percent savings.  Shorter stays of less than seven nights, qualify for a $250 spa credit.

Breezes Runaway Bay:  Tucked among 22 acres lined with a quarter-mile stretch of private white sand beach, Breezes Runaway Bay reopened last year following a US$20 million renovation, with 266 suites and rooms, new restaurants, spa and swimming pools.  Starting at $150 per person, per night, guests enjoy Premium room accommodations, 50 percent savings, along with $150 spa credits, and unlimited greens fees at the adjacent 18-hole PGA quality golf course, windsurfing lessons, and reef/wreck/drift diving at the P.A.D.I. Gold Palm Resort certified operation.  For stays under a week, a $100 spa credit applies.  Guests can also choose to upgrade to a Plunge Pool Verandah Suite for an additional $35 per person, per night.

Starfish Trelawny:  At $129 per person, per night, Starfish guests save 50 percent and are upgraded to the Super-Inclusive Platinum Plan – a room savings of $76 per day – that provides unlimited access to motorized sports, and restaurant/drink privileges.  In addition, a $100 spa credit means guests can follow up a waterskiing morning with an afternoon massage, at no extra cost.  Bookings under seven nights qualify for a $50 spa credit.

All starting rates above are per person, per night, based on doubles, land only.  Spa credits are based on per room.  A five-night minimum stay is required, although seven-night bookings yield the highest discounts.

Kids Stay, Play and Eat Free This Summer in The Caribbean Plus 15% to 20% Savings at Two Antigua Resorts

Award-winning Elite Island Resorts rolls out the red carpet for families this summer in Antigua at two upscale family-friendly, all-inclusive, oceanfront Caribbean resorts.

At St. James’s Club & Villas and The Verandah Resort & Spa, kids under 12 stay, play and eat free while their parents enjoy the Instant Savings promotion of 15 percent on stays between May and June, 2008, and 20 percent savings July through August 15, 2008. Both Caribbean resorts cater to families with spacious guest accommodations and extensive, dedicated complimentary kids club programs and multi-generational activities so parents and kids can have fun together.

The Stay and Dine Free summer special allows one child to stay and dine free per adult when sharing the same accommodations, with a maximum of two adults and two children per room. Percent savings are applied toward the resorts’ summer 2008 all inclusive rack rates based on double occupancy which start at $495 for The Verandah and $520 for St. James’s Club, which includes all food, beverages, room accommodations, activities, non motorized water sports, taxes and gratuities.

“Families need to recharge and renew their bonds away from life’s pressures. We encourage parents to share quality experiences with their children during summer vacation. At our Antigua resorts the kid’s programs are the perfect place for children to have fun, make new friends and stimulate their imaginations, while parents reconnect with their family and find private time as well,” said Steven E. Heydt, Elite Island Resorts president.

The Verandah Resort & Spa is an eco-friendly luxury retreat with two beaches and a cove protected bay - ideal for swimming and water sports. Its 700-square foot suites comfortably sleep four; larger families can book a second adjacent suite at a 50 percent savings.

St. James’s Club & Villas is tucked away on a secluded 100-acre peninsula, and exudes a casual, club-like ambience. Families enjoy the resort’s two white-sand beaches and a full array of non-motorized water sports.

Starting June 12, 2008, Delta Airlines will add Thursday and Sunday non- stop service from New York’s JFK International Airport to Antigua, making the resorts easier than ever to reach.

Live Like a King, Spend as a Pauper

Castles, former hunting lodges and beautiful manor homes have been turned into bed and breakfast places and even youth hostels. Pleasant, historic and non-expensive these unique accommodations can offer bargain getaways at a price you never expected.

The castles and monasteries, manor houses that have joined the Culture and Castles association, a group of aristocratic families opening up their properties to the public, stand out due to their remarkable authenticity - and they provide timeless accommodations for great value, starting at 60 Euro per night. The services range from bed and breakfast, holiday apartments and wedding facilities to dreamlike locations for meetings and special festivities.

Along the Castle Road, which expands over 600 miles from Mannheim/Heidelberg to Prague, some of the over 70 castles, palaces and castle ruins have been turned into hotels and are offering comfortable and fairy-tale like accommodations. For centuries the buildings have survived the vicissitudes of history and stand as reminders of emperors, kings and princes, of poets and thinkers, robber knights and romantic tales of chivalry.

Youth hostels in castles are the essence of great value with a unique experience. Stahleck Castle   in Bacharach near the river Rhine is Germany’s prime example of spending like a pauper but living like a king. This 11th century castle houses today one of Germany’s top youth hostels with plenty of beds, a warm welcome, and an original medieval view. Prices for an overnight stay can be as low as 20 Euro. Other popular youth hostels can be found in the castles of Nuremberg above the city center www.jugendherberge.de , Altena near the Ruhr region , Ehrenbreitstein near Koblenz  and Rothenfels in the Main valley .
