Joyce and Don Bilger founded MS Week in Jackson Village, NH. Photo from Inn at Jackson. From May 3-7, 2010, inns, restaurants and retail stores in the small town of Jackson, New Hampshire will once again open their hearts and doors welcoming hundreds of people who are living with multiple sclerosis and their guests. The brainchild of Don and Joyce Bilger, owners of the Inn at Jackson and Whitney’s Inn at Jackson, this event has grown from a weekend getaway for those living with MS to a village-side week-long wellness retreat for those with MS.
MS Week in Jackson Village began five years ago at the Inn at Jackson. The idea originated from Don and Joyce Bilger, owners and innkeepers of the Inn at Jackson. Joyce was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2000, and the couple wanted to give back to others coping with the disease. Due to the initial overwhelming response to the event, other inns in Jackson were inspired to step forward to help meet the high demand for lodging.

Celebrate National Park Week, April 17-25, 2010!
If you’re planning a trip to the nation’s capital, you may be able to name a number of stops on your itinerary without even cracking a guidebook. Memorials to presidents; museums devoted to natural history, air travel and space exploration, and the visual arts; the White House; the U.S. Capitol—these sites or some combination of them draw many visitors. But you might look at your schedule and wonder if several days of marble monuments, glass display cases, rooms of paintings, and iconic buildings will have you hankering for a break.
Slate a day or two to get away from the Mall and explore a much different national park—a pocket of America’s great outdoors within the boundaries of the District of Columbia. Rock Creek Park, located in northwest D.C., offers a mixture of scenery, tranquility, adventure, and activity.
Among Rock Creek’s slopes, trees, and slabs of rock, and near its eponymous body of water, you can ride on horseback, take a run, bicycle, or rollerblade. This week’s Getaway destination also beckons to hikers and kayakers, although, equipped with multi-use paths, it more than accommodates those seeking the proverbial stroll in the park.

1. Track Snow Leopards In the Altai Republic: This award-winning volunteer vacation takes travelers to the remote mountains of the Altai Republic to follow in the tracks of the elusive Snow Leopards to conduct research that aims to protect an unprotected corridor of Snow Leopard movement from Mongolia to Russia where next to nothing is known about the numbers of leopards and their movements.
2. Monitor Flatback Turtles in Western Australia: This volunteer vacation takes people to the strikingly beautiful coastline of Western Australia to conduct a survey of iconic Australian flatback turtles. While soaking in the stunning scenery, measure and tag turtles, and record data about nesting behavior.
